PPW Awards Honors Susan Marsidi, Kevin Swett, Judy Horn

The 2003 Professional Photographer of Washington Awards were handed out earlier this year in Yakima, Wash. Overall awards were given in four categories: Susan Marsidi won the Russ Clift Trophy for Diversified Aggregate and the Lee Merrill Trophy -- PPW People's Choice for her "Bridge to Paradise"; Kevin Swett took the Alma Grey Trophy for First-Time Entry Highest Aggregate; and Best of Show -- Jurors' Choice went to Judy Horn's "Winter Flight."

Top awards at the 2003 Pierce County (Wash.) Professional Photographers Association semiannual print competition went to two photographers from Strode-McGowan Studios. Kevin McGowan took Best of Show and Best of Commercial Category for his "Combo Platter," one of a series created for Montezuma Restaurants. His associate, Sharon Holcomb, won in the Best of Restoration category for her "Peek-a-Boo Priest."

Judy Horn Selected for Fujifilm's National Talent Team

Judy Horn, of Horn Graphics in Tacoma, Wash., has been selected as a representative on the national Talent Team by Fujifilm USA. In addition, Horn recently earned her Associate Fellow Photographer designation with the Seattle Professional Photographers Association.

Works by Judy Horn, of Horn Graphics (hornfineartimaging.com) in Tacoma, Wash., received the Best of Category award (for the Spirit of America category) and the Director’s Purchase Award at the Western Washington State Fair’s fine-art competition. Judy Horn uses digital technology to blur the line between photograph and painting.

Some have called it "photo painting." Others have suggested "painting with photographs" or even "artography." For Tacoma, Wash., photographer Judy Horn, it's a good living.

For two decades, Horn has been making digital magic with her photos, turning them into virtual paintings with the help of computer editing and graphics programs.
